Doherty charged over heroin after court appearance

British musician Peter Doherty was charged with possession of heroin, police said Tuesday, following an incident in court.
The Babyshambles frontman, 30, was arrested Monday minutes after being spared jail and fined for driving offences at Gloucester Crown Court in southwest England.
He was told of his arrest in the court corridors and officers marched him to the police station across the road.
“The 30-year-old man from Wiltshire that was arrested in Gloucester on Monday has been charged with possession of heroin and has been bailed to appear at Gloucester Magistrates’ Court in January,” a Gloucestershire Police spokeswoman told AFP.
At the court hearing, the former Libertines singer was told to pay 2,050 pounds (3,280 dollars, 2,290 euros) and banned from driving for 18 months.
The ex-boyfriend of supermodel Kate Moss admitted to careless driving on June 11 following a concert in Gloucester.
He also admitted drink-driving on the same night. He gave a reading of 50 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 micrograms.
He had earlier admitted to two counts of drug possession plus driving without a licence and without insurance as part of the same incident.
Doherty has had recurring problems with drugs, alcohol and driving offences. He has already served time in prison.
