On this day in gay comedy history…

It was on this day in 1154 when the first evening of drag comedy was held at St. Christopher’s Ale House in Sussex, England as the pub was overtaken by a number of wandering minstrels who were dressed in women’s garb, sang show tunes and heckled the audience. While it seemed to deeply offend the male patrons who believed they were merely in for an evening of mead drinking and Crusade planning, the wenches and choir boys were said to have been thoroughly amused.
