Gay actor, George Takei, is honored with Asteroid
George Takei, an out actor most noted for his portrayal as Mr. Sulu in the original Star Trek series, was recently honored by the International Astronomical Union’s Committee on Small Body Nomenclature with an asteroid which bears his name.
Discovered by two Japanese astronomers in 1994, the rock is now called 7307 Takei and joins a unique group of asteroids named after other various members of the Star Trek community including its creator, Gene Roddenberry.
