Two Years After “Brokeback Mountain,” No Gay Movies in Hollywood

Since 2005’s huge success of the film Brokeback Mountain, no studio has greenlit a movie with a gay lead. Diana Ossana, one of the writers of the screenplay, says she knew many Oscar voters who refused to see the film, leaving her to ask her co-writer Larry McMurty, “What are they afraid of? It’s just a movie.”

With the shifting attitudes towards homosexuality over the past decade and the full acceptance of gay lead characters in television, people have been left thinking that Brokeback Mountain may have changed nothing.
