Ali Forney, The Face of Homeless LGBT Youth, Remembered
On Thursday night dozens of people came to a Manhattan church to commemorate the death of Ali Forney, a young gay man who was fatally shot in the head ten years ago.
Ali Forney had struggled with homelessness and drug use for years. His death brought to light the fact that there was no safe place for him or other homeless gay youths to safely go.
In 2002 Carl Sicilano opened the Ali Forney Center, which provides housing and assistance to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered teens and young adults who are living on the streets.
Those who knew Forney remembered him for his warmth and love of others, the ones who didn’t said if not for him, they would have no place to go.
