Number of HIV Positive Men Under 30 On the Rise in NYC
AIDS experts are concerned with the growing number of new HIV infections among black and Hispanic men in New York City who engage in sexual intercourse with men. The rate for minorities has rose 34% between 2001 and 2006.
The city’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene believes that factors such as the increase in drug use among younger men, the belief that AIDS is easily treated and the worry that HIV status affects relationships have lead to the increase over the past five years.
