Gay Men at Risk for New Strain of Bacteria
Researchers are reporting that a new strain of the “flesh-eating” MRSA bacteria is being spread among gay men in San Francisco and Boston.
The study published online was based on medical records from outpatient clinics and medical centers across the two cities which documented the rapid spread in gay populations.
Intercourse seems to be the easiest way to spread the bacteria, according to researchers but it can also be transmitted through casual contact and touching contaminated surfaces.
