Same-Sex Weddings Still Set for June

June 17th will remain the day that same-sex couples in California can tie the knot, after the Supreme Court rejected a petition today that would have delayed ruling until after the November election.

The Judges voted 4 to 3 against the petitions submitted by Christan groups that they change their ruling that lifted the ban back in May. California voters will now have the chance to voice their opinions in November with the constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage on the ballot.

Christian groups are threatening that gay couples who marry before the vote in November, could have their union nullified if the ruling is overturned, but lawyers challenge that the marriages may remain intact.

Legal director for the National Center for Lesbian Rights, Shannon Price Minter, showed her support for the courts ruling, “for allowing its historic victory for fairness and opportunity to go into effect without further delay.”
