Presbyterian Minister Found Not Guilty

Reverend Janet Edwards has been found not guilty of violating the Presbyterian Church constitution for performing a gay marriage ceremony. Edwards who is a pastor at Community of Reconciliation Church performed the ceremony for two women in 2005.

According to the Church marriage is reserved between a man and a woman, although ministers may bless other types of “holy unions.” During the proceedings Edwards told the court, “Scripture has taught me that the heart of marriage is the love and commitment between two partners.”

Had Edwards been found guilty she could have been defrocked. Three other Presbyterian ministers have been charged but all have been found not guilty as well.
